The 'Imagine' Sets Sail for Cabo!
The 4-person crew of the Imagine departed San Diego at 10am on November 1, 2021 for a two-week "cruisers" rally to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Joining them in this much anticipated 750 mile trip were 155 boats of varying sizes, makes and colors. This is the first time the crew and the Imagine have participated in the Baja Ha-Ha, now in its 27th year. Learn more about the event here.
Exciting Departure
Corinne said they witnessed up close and person one warship leaving and one coming in! Very exciting indeed. Check it out:
Rally, Not a Race
This is sailing after all, and it's all about the journey. They sail all day and all night, working in roughly 3 hour shifts until they arrive at their destination. They do have two stops along the way. The first at Turtle Bay aka Bahia Tortuga, and the second at Bahia Santa Maria. The event is timed so even the slowest boats will get about a day and a half rest at each stop. Here's a schedule.
The crew just learned the Mexican village of Bahia Tortuga is putting out the welcome mat for the Haha boats upon their arrival Nov 4! The schedule says there will be a "World Famous cruiser and Mexican
Turtle Bay ‘Ha-Ha style’ baseball game" on that day, followed by a Turtle Bay Beach Party on Nov 5. Not too shabby.
About Bahia Tortugas, Mexico
I dug up some fun facts about the pueblito named after turtles:
- 2,367 inhabitants with 40% from outside of Baja
- Nestled in a well protected harbor almost exactly midway between San Diego and Cabo
- Not a typical tourist destination as its mostly visited via boat or hardcore off-roaders
- Only place to buy gasoline for hundreds of miles up and down the coast!
- Apparently home to a delicious hot dog cart
Looking forward to hearing about their first stop!
